Veronica Is Back On The Australian Scene, With A Difference
Author :
RHR

In just under a fortnight Veronica McCann is set to make a long awaited return to the driver’s seat in Australia at the Grand Opening night of the Kwinana Motorplex, Western Australia’s 18 million dollar Motorsports facility.

Red Hot Roni as she is known in the racing scene has spent the past 18 months focusing her efforts in the USA away from the dirt track scene.

“I was, and still am focussed on successfully making the transition over to pavement racing in the US. Hence my decision to take time away from dirt racing here in Australia and the US.”

McCann’s career of late has been all about diversity and showing her ability to adapt to different racecars under different conditions. This coming summer 'Down Under' will be no different as Veronica will be competing in the Late Model Pro Dirt Series which kicks off Saturday 27th, October.

“I wanted to widen my resume and gain some heavy car experience as I had spent the past 6 years racing light weight open wheel cars. Whilst I was still in the US this year I asked my Dad to make a call to sedan ace Allan Blake, and Allan came up with more then advice, he offered a plan.”

The plan from Australia’s Late Model guru, Allan Blake, came to fruition in rapid time and Veronica then spent her last week in the US with Allan learning some of the US dirt Late Model scene and purchasing a third car to add to “The O Show” stable for her to campaign for the upcoming race season. There is certainly no shortage of knowledge and history within the Blake team as Brad and Allan, driver and crew chief, have dominated the Australian Late Model scene winning three National titles and seven State titles.

“One thing I learnt from Lyn (St. James) is to always try and put yourself in the best position possible to achieve your goals and move forward. I have no doubts at all with this team. I have a lot of respect for Allan’s knowledge and have known him for many years. And I have a lot of respect for Brad (Blake) as a driver and soon to be competitor.”

Saturday week, McCann will make her debut in the division driving the Gaerte powered Rayburn regularly driven by USA’s Ron Miller as the team awaits the arrival of the newest car to the team.
