Veronica Mccann - Rumble On The River

The Pro Dirt Late Models ventured south for the Easter long weekend for the two night Rumble on the River event held at Margaret River Speedway. For Veronica, it would be the first time the former Sprintcar star would compete at the venue and Red Hot was certainly looking forward to the action.
“I had seen the track once, about six or so years ago but never raced here. We’ve struggled a bit at the Motorplex but the car seems to really work at these smaller tracks”.
The format for night one proceedings would see each driver compete in two heats, and after a draw for grid positions McCann was lined up to start in position five and six respectively. Veronica finished the qualifying with a pair of 5th places in her heat races which gave her enough points to line up in twelfth place for night ones preliminary feature race.
“We had so much body damage from that second heat race, it was a decent effort by everyone and I must say thankyou to all of those who offered parts and helped us to get the car out there just in time for the final”.
After an action packed preliminary feature Veronica had moved up and crossed the checkers in 4th place behind eventual winner Brad Blake, Warren Oldfield and third place Ryan Halliday. With double points awarded to the preliminary main, McCann sat fourth in overall points after night one.
Night two for McCann saw the night start off with the only heat race of the evening. A last row draw made it hard work for the #50 Intimidator but McCann was able to move up and finish 4th which secured Veronica a position in the A Dash allowing Red Hot Roni to start the Main event of the weekend out of grid seven.
“Allan and I had tweaked a few things during the weekend to get me more and more comfortable in the car and after the Dash I was certainly confident that we had something good to work with for the final”.
Luck wasn’t on Veronica’s side for the final night of the Rumble on the River race meeting with Matthew Goodlads car lodged underneath McCann’s machine on the exit of turn two early in the race. “It had lifted the bodywork up that much that I couldn’t even see out of the side of the car anymore”, McCann stated.
A spin on the exit of turn four mid race set Veronica back after being sent ROF (rear of field) for the mistake. By the time the chequered flag fell, McCann had worked her way back to 9th.
“Certainly not a great night from our side of things, Brad won both nights so at least there will be some smiles at the workshop! There’s a lot of work to be done between now and the final night at the Motorplex and then we head up north in May”.
The next round for Veronica will be at the Kwinana Motorplex on the 12th April - The 2008 RHR / Veronica McCann merchandise ready for Veronica’s US summer will be available at the event.
