Australian Sprintcar Championship Countdown
Author : Ross Allen
Drivers, officials and race fans are on countdown for the 2009 Australian Sprintcar Championship. The Championship gets underway on Wednesday 04 February 2009 – just one week away – with a practice night session organized by Perth Motorplex followed by an informal BBQ at the complex. It marks the start of a hectic four days of planning, preparation and competition to decide the 47th winner of one of Australian speedway’s most prestigious events.
On Thursday 05 February, official scrutineering of racecars begins at 10:00am through until 4:00pm. The first Championship drivers’ briefing will be held at 5:00pm and the official Opening Ceremony gets underway at 6:00pm. The first two rounds of Championship heats will be run on this first night.
On Friday morning, 06 February, drivers and officials will attend a one hour drug policy education seminar presented by the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority (ASADA). The Sprintcar Control Council of Australia (SCCA) has had a new drug policy approved by ASADA and this will be an excellent opportunity for drivers and officials to attend a face-to-face presentation to explain the policy. Western Australian Beijing Olympic heptathlete Kylie Wheeler will also make a presentation at the seminar. Round 3 heats of the Championship and the Preliminary A Main will be contested on Friday night.
Saturday 07 February is the Championship Grand Finale night. Round 4 heats will be contested followed by the C Main, B Main and A Main Championship decider.
With the commitment of the Perth Motorplex promotion, the SCCA officials, the Championship competitors and the fabulous race fans, the 2009 Australian Sprintcar Championship promises to be an exciting event.
