• Steven Caruso has led the Revolution Racegear Speedway City Track Championship since round 3 through sheer consistency but last Saturday night he put an exclamation mark on his series lead by winning round 9 of the series. Caruso led the entire 25 lap finale after starting on the outside of the front row and with only one round remaining he now holds a lead of over 200 points over his nearest rival, Sam Putland.

Going into the final Brad Keller had actually won both of his qualifying heats and was clearly the fastest car at the racetrack but he was destined to start from position nine after failing to record a lap in Time Trials due to a magneto issue. Keller would eventually finish third in the final behind Caruso and Keke Falland but he task was made even harder after his car jumped out of gear five laps into the race sending him back to rear after making up five spots.

Despite the small field there was still plenty of drama on the night as in addition to Keller’s issues Luke Bowey was another who had a tough night. After he damaged his engine in his first heat the team headed back to his nearby workshop to bring the backup car to the track but it was all for nothing as he triggered a multi car accident on lap nine of the final after tagging an infield tyre barrier. As he spun in front of the field a number of cars including Brendan Quinn, Michael Burford and Justin Sloan were involved with Quinn rolling his #14.

Behind Keller the only other finishers in the race were Sam Putland, pole sitter Brock Hallett, Todd Wigzell, Shannon Barry and Sloan.

The night also saw a large number of support classes but the car numbers were unfortunately well down.

In the Wingless Sprints Joel Chadwick’s unbeaten run continued as he drove his SA #1 machine to the win over Spencer Taylor and Brett Ireland while Ryan Alexander won the JD Couriers Super Sedan event. Justin Demaine won the Street Stock Demonstration event while Brad Stell reset three Track Records on his way to the win in the Formula 500 Feature.

Prior to the final Stell reset the 8 lap Track Record on two occasions with the final mark being set at 1:54.84 before he lowered the 15 lap record, that was held by Brock Hallett, by almost 10 seconds to 3:34.71.

The next event at Speedway City will be conducted on Easter Sunday (March 27) with the National Karate Academies EASTER THRILLERAMA!!! The night will feature a Caravan, Boat and Dunny Derby, Monster Fireworks, the SA Legend Car Championship, The Speedway Shop Speedcar Stampede, Easter Cups for Wingless Sprints and Junior Sedans, V6 Sprints and Street Stocks.
