• Famed former Queensland State of Origin star, Jharal Yow Yeh has become self-confessed speedway fan after officially signing on as Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway Ambassador.

Now a prominent media identity after his playing career ended from a severe leg injury in 2012, Jharal continues to enjoy an outstanding profile through his continuing close association with the Brisbane Broncos and various media outlets, however his recent visit to Toowoomba’s “Hi-Tec Hi-Banks” was his first at a motorsport venue, and he was instantly hooked.

“I can’t believe how fast they are and how focussed they have to be,” the super-fast winger remarked, as he observed Two time Australian Super Sedan supremo, Darren Kane cut some laps in a Sprintcar alongside former Australian Lightning Sprint Champion, Sean Iacono making his debut in a Sprintcar and 2014 Queensland Lightning Sprint victor, Scotty Genrich.

“It all happens so fast! I can’t imagine how quick it would all happen behind the wheel,” the self-confessed new speedway convert confessed,” genuinely impressed with how quick the cars were circulating.

“I can’t wait to bring my friends out here to see this. My whole world is football, so this is so completely different to anything I’ve ever seen, I’m really looking forward to encouraging all of the Bronco’s fans and Rugby League fans in general to come and see this. It’s amazing!”

The former Rugby League International’s almost boy-like enthusiasm quickly came to a halt however, when he was presented with the opportunity to have a run in a two seater later next month in the lead up to Toowoomba’s opening round of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship on September 24.

“Umm…” was all he could muster in response to the invitation by events manager, Ben Bishop, who was quick to reassure him of the safety, albeit with a wry smile.

“He was in shock I think,” Bishop said, laughing about how quickly Jharal’s demeanour changed, “but I think he will be up for the challenge, because he genuinely was amazed with these machines. I think he’s going to be a fantastic ambassador for us and we are really privileged to have him on board.”

Bishop admitted he wasn’t really expecting the Rugby League star to be so enthused.

“I didn’t know what to expect, and wouldn’t have been too surprised if he just came and did a few photos and then left, but he stayed on today for longer than required, both out of fascination with the sport and because he’s a great loyal guy, and anyone who knows his journey with the Brisbane Bronco’s knows that’s what he’s all about. He’s the perfect fit for us!”

Look out for Jharal on the upcoming marketing for Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, as well as his debut in a two seater later in September.
