The ground pounding Late Model Sedans will headline this Saturday night’s racing at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway and Camden’s Ben Nicastri is hoping for the ‘Wright’ way to start the season.

Armed with a pair of brand spanking new Barry Wright Racecars Nicastri will finally get his new beast dirty for the first night of the Dirt Muscle Car (DMC) battle at Parramatta.

“We’ve bought two new Barry Wright cars,” explains Nicastri, “but the second one is for American Devin Moran when he races here later this season. I can’t wait to get out there Saturday night and break my new ACM Parts car in though.”

It’ll be far from an easy night for the 24-year-old third generation racer with thirteen entries confirmed for Saturday night’s DMC opener.

Whilst the numbers are down somewhat for the first night over half the field is a legitimate podium place or feature win contender.

Bruce Mackenzie, Clayton Pyne, Todd Bayley, David Doherty, Ryan Fenech, Nathan Disney and Nicastri have all either bagged main event wins or been close to it in the last two seasons at VR.

Mild-mannered Sydneysider David Doherty was very much the quiet achiever last season being the most consistent visitor into the top three.

“Since I turned fifty I’ve been racing better than ever,” he admits, “I should have shifted to Late Models years ago.”

The field will also feature exciting rookie Brad Giffen, Maitland third generation racer Jess Cassidy, Newcastle veteran Robert Carrig, ACT newcomer Warren White Jr, Wade Carter and Dean Hickey.

The Street Stocks will conduct their prestigious Bryan Foyle Memorial with a strong field nominated including Bryan’s son Corey who has more reason than anyone to wrestle a top three finish or even a win.

AMCA Nationals will be there in force also with the level playing field they always bring and some beautifully presented racecars.

A typically hectic field of over 50 Wingless Sprints will commence hostilities in what is one of the most competitive classes at Valvoline Raceway each season.
