• Ian Madsen staked his claim for his first Classic win as he won night 2 of the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Sungold Stadium. After setting the quickest time during the first flight of qualifying Madsen continued his form into the heats where he maintained his top qualifying effort starting on the pole for the 30-lap finale and leading the entire way.

Second place went to defending Champion Jamie Veal with another former Classic winner Shane Stewart completing the podium. After falling back in the early stages Stewart came on strong towards the end of the race passing both James McFadden and Brad Keller to gain the final berth on the podium. Fourth went to McFadden, who had earlier won two heat races and started alongside Madsen on the front row, while South Australian Brad Keller continued his stunning Sungold Stadium form with a solid top five result.

Around the mid race point Keller looked set for a podium finish as he drove past both Stewart and McFadden only to fade back to fifth due to tyre wear.

Californian Dominic Scelzi led home Knoxville Nationals Champion Jason Johnson with Robbie Farr, Matt Egel and Luke Dillon, who set quick time in flight 2, completing the top 10. Corey Eliason made an impressive Warrnambool debut to finish 11th ahead of Darren Mollenouyx, Terry McCarl, Ryan Jones, who won the B-Main and Max Johnston.

Along with McFadden’s two heat victories the remaining wins went the way of Terry McCarl, Jamie Veal, Luke Dillon, Darren Mollenouyx, Mitch Wormall and Brad Keller. Dennis Jones won the C-Main and Ryan Jones the B-Main.

During the night, Daniel Pestka, David Aldersley, Shane Sheedy, Aidan Hall and Michael Cunningham all rolled over with the worst being Pestka’s big crash in turn three.
