The JAK CIVIL Sprintcar Team driver Cameron Gessner has stated previously that he likes the challenge of racing against the top competitors.
This was never more evident than last weekend when Gessner took on all comers at the Grand Final of the World Series Sprintcars competition at the Perth Motorplex.
Gessner was sixth in the Friday night A Main - the second best effort by a local driver - and stood on the podium the following evening - finishing behind the three times WSS champion James McFadden and the current Australian titleholder Kerry Madsen, who has raced professionally in America for the past decade.
Night one kicked off with the Time Trial, which saw Gessner clock a 14.518 second lap that put him 15th in the 27 car field.
He started fifth on his opening heat and finished fourth, then came from position six up to second in his next outing.
This put Gessner in the Bronze Shootout (for the drivers 5th to 8th on points).
His lap time of 14.321 seconds was the second fastest and he moved up to the Silver Shootout.
Here Gessner improved his lap time to 14.282 seconds but was third fastest, meaning he would start the 30-lap feature race from position 5.
He went as far back at seventh during the event but kept at it and crossed the line in sixth spot - the second best effort by a WA driver.
On Saturday Gessner was the sixth fastest in qualifying with a 14.464 second circulation.
He raced from eighth to fourth in his first heat race and then maintained his seventh spot in his next heat, only to be relegated two spots by the officials.
Again Gessner took part on the Bronze Shootout, winning with a 13.698 second lap, and coming third in the Silver Shootout after a 13.641 second effort.
He lined up in position five in the World Series Sprintcars finale.
Gessner swapped places with local Jason Kendrick midway through the 30-lap event, then around six laps from home wrested third spot off the defending World Series Sprintcars titleholder Jamie Veal from Victoria.
It was a brilliant effort by the #41 JAK CIVIL Team pilot and the fine results over the weekend gives everybody involved a lot of confidence for the final few races of the season.
