With only a handful of race meetings under his belt, teenager Jock Goodyer has reached new heights in Formula 500s, recently scoring back-to-back feature-race wins at Solo Hobart Speedway and Carrick Speedway tracks respectively.

In just his third ever meeting with the class at Solo Hobart Speedway a fortnight ago, the 16-year-old racer from Launceston in Tasmania showed impressive speed in the 20-lap feature race. He quickly moved into third in the opening stages of the race from his seventh-place starting position and taking over the lead on lap 13, which was a position he held onto through to the fall of the chequered flag to impressively achieve his maiden feature-race win.

Heading into his fourth meeting at Carrick Speedway last Saturday night with added confidence, Goodyer managed to overcome a difficult start to the night, which saw him line up third for the 20-lap feature race. Moving into second on lap three, Goodyer showed maturity beyond his years, keeping his patience and continuing to put the pressure on race leader Dylan Beveridge and eventually pipping him for the lead with seven laps to go, going on to clinch another comfortable victory.

“If someone had have said to me that I’d score back-to-back feature-race wins after only four race meetings, I would’ve said they were crazy,” commented a jubilant Goodyer.

“Achieving my maiden feature-race win was such a great feeling and to be able to do it again so soon is quite surreal.

“Apart from my family and sponsors, I can’t thank my crew chief Craig Munday enough for all of his support, along with the advice I receive from my dad’s brother-in-law Allan Joyce.”

Despite their successful conclusions, both race meetings certainly didn’t begin in the best of fashions. At Solo Hobart Speedway, Goodyer was unable to start his opening heat race after suffering an overheating issue, but was able to make amends in heat-race two, finishing third.

The following Saturday night at Carrick Speedway, Goodyer made the ‘rookie’ error of forgetting to sign in at the beginning of the race meeting, and it caused him to start rear of field for both of his heat races. Putting his head down, Goodyer bounced back from the misfortune to win his opening heat race, only to hit the wall in heat-race two, bending the rear axle. Goodyer managed to hold on to steer his ailing car home in eighth.

Off the back of these two victories, Goodyer will take added confidence into the upcoming Australian Championship, which will take place over two nights on Good Friday and Easter Saturday (April 14-15) at Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia.
