• After a season long points chase for the USC QLD Mitchell Motorsport and driver Danny Reidy managed to secure third place in the overall series after recording their best result of the 2016/17 Championship with a third placing in the Grand Final on Easter Friday at Toowoomba. Going into the final Reidy was sitting inside the top three in the series but he was locked in an intense battle with Andrew Scheuerle and Lachlan McHugh but his result in the final round was enough to hold onto the final podium position giving the Mitchell Motorsport Team one of their best results in recent years.

In what was a great turn out for the opening night of the Easter Tri City Shootout 40 cars signed in for competition with Danny qualifying in fourteenth in the highly competitive field with only half of one second separating the top twenty cars.

After starting third in first heat of the night he went on to win in dominant style before charging through to second in his second preliminary after starting from position seven. His results therefore qualified Danny for the bronze shootout where he was the fastest driver in the bronze shootout therefore he moved to the silver shootout. With the two fastest drivers moving into the Gold Shootout he just missed out on moving to the gold shootout ultimately securing position five in the 40-lap A main.

From the drop of the green Danny drove a smart and determined race to be in position four when the race was red flagged at lap twenty-three when the ambulance was required for an emergency with a spectator on the hill. Danny had been lucky when on the first lap of the A main when an excited rookie driver almost end Danny’s race. Luckily, Danny did not stop and was able to take his place in the restart with a wounded car.

After a delay of close to an hour the race was restarted with Danny in position four, having withstood immense pressure from Peter Lack over the prior twenty laps. Shortly after the restart Danny moved up to position three and then had to withstand more pressure from Bryan Mann over the concluding laps to finish on the podium in third and he secured the points required to take third in the USC QLD championship.

“This team has and continues to show the qualities of never giving up or in, no matter what the situation. I am so proud to be part of it” added an elated Team Owner Peter Mitchell.
