• Tim Van Ginneken wrapped up his 2016-17 season with a mixed bag of results throughout the three nights of the Easter Sprintcar Trail.

Van Ginneken showed a lot of pace aboard his Harry Droste-owned Vic # 36 Lowes Auto Repairs / South West Conveyancing supported XXX during the three nights but he was unable to convert that into podium results.

Ending up fourth in the final Easter Trail overall point standings, Van Ginneken started out by narrowly missing out on a podium finish in the opening round at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.

The following round at Mount Gambier’s Speedway, he qualified eighth for the feature race and that was where he finished. At his home track of Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway for the third and final round, he once again qualified eighth for the feature race
but his run was over before it had begun, due to a power steering pump failure.

The highlight of the weekend was without a doubt the tooth and nail battle with Darren Mollenoyux in the opening round for the Avalon Raceway Track Championship honours.

The pair threw everything at one another as they fought over the final spot on the podium, which would see the winner out of the two take out the track championship honours and also win a car courtesy of Essendon Ford, but in the end Mollenoyux was able to narrowly
    defeat Van Ginneken.

Looking back over the 2016-17 season, Van Ginneken finished second in the final Eureka Garages & Sheds Series point standings and also was able to defend his Western Australian 410 Sprintcar Title at the Perth Motorplex driving the Steve Crabbe-owned SJ Crushing Cool
    car.

“The goal at the beginning of the season was to be consistently competitive, and I’m very satisfied with what I’ve achieved,” commented Van Ginneken, who has just completed his fifth season in Sprintcars.

“Victoria has some great competition and tracks, so being able to race consistently down here has allowed me to improve as a racer and be a front-running contender – not just in my own state but when I travel interstate.

“Running wheel to wheel with Darren (Mollenoyux) for the Avalon Raceway Track Championship on Friday night was a lot of fun. We didn’t give each other much room but at the same time we were respectable towards one another, but in the end he got the better
    of me.”

The 2017-18 season plans are already underway for Van Ginneken. These plans are to run a similar schedule to the one just gone, which will see a bit interstate racing, such as venturing to Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway and the possibility of travelling over to Tasmania to run their
World Series rounds. It will also include running with the SJ Crushing team, as they attempt to clinch a hat-trick of wins in the Western Australian 410 Sprintcar Title.

Van Ginneken team would like to thank his 2016-17 season sponsors: Lowes Auto Repairs and South West Conveyancing. Special thanks: Brony, Chase, Lexi, Jimmy, Alex, Lindsay, Paul, Troy, Steve, Graham and Liam.
