Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway will host the very best drivers in the country in four race categories this Saturday night (May 6) when Super Sedans and Dirt Modifieds headline the program. A 21-car field has nominated for the final round of the Think Money Super Sedan Championship Series, while 17 drivers have entered for the Dirt Modified events, setting the scene for a big night of V8 dirt track action. Also on the program will be Compact Speedcars, Modlites and Ford vs Holden vs Sigma sedans, with no less than four current national champions amongst the 70+ competitors nominated.

Darren Kane and Matt Pascoe are undeniably the top two Super Sedan drivers in the country at the moment, having been the standout performers in a recent interstate tour that took in events in Western Australia and Sydney. Pascoe added the Western Australian Championship to the Queensland title he won earlier in the season, while Kane clinched his third national title in Albany and then secured his sixth New South Wales Championship. Such was their dominance that Kane finished second behind Pascoe in Albany before Pascoe secured third behind Kane in Albany and then finished second in Sydney. Brisbane race fans will get to see both of them in action this Saturday night, where they will be joined by South Australian young gun Ryan Alexander, who was a standout in these parts earlier in the season during the Summer Slam tour. Alexander has completely dominated racing in his home state this season and was actually leading the Australian Championship final in WA until he found himself unable to avoid the errant escapades of two lapped cars. Incredibly enough, despite the form they bring to the event, this trio cannot expect easy passage to the podium because there is a multitude of state and national championship winners in the field, including current series leader Mark Pagel. Former national champ Steve Jordan is also a starter, as are Wayne Brims and Ian Brims, who have five NSW Championship wins between them, along with four-time Queensland champ Wayne Randall. Throw in defending series champion Sean Black and Tasmania’s Steve Latham and both Kane and Pascoe will be under the pump to repeat their interstate form at home in the final Super Sedan show for the season.

Dirt Modifieds will also feature a clash of champions with national titleholder Kevin Britten facing off against Andrew Pezzutti, who clinched the NSW Championship two weekends ago in Lismore. Britten, who defended his national crown in Rockhampton last month, has been brilliant at Archerfield this season and the likes of Pezzutti, former national champ David Clark and category stalwart Garry Wathen seem the trio most likely to conjure a strategy to prevent Britten from dominating once again. Category newcomer Terry Leerentveld, who twice won the Australian Modlite Championship and will be doing double duty on the night, is a welcome addition to the field for the first time, while Lismore-based Ray Eggins is making a rare appearance north of the border and brings plenty of experience into the mix.

As has been the case throughout the season, Compact Speedcar numbers are strong again this weekend, with national champ Darren Vine amongst the entries for the Paul Messer Memorial. Rob Stewart and Wayne Corbett have been Vines biggest adversaries for several seasons now and they will continue their rivalry on Saturday night, with former category champion Steve Swingler back on track as well to further bolster the field.

Rounding out the surfeit of national champions in action on Saturday night is Modlite supremo Aaron Prosser, who will face off against the man he took the title from in Leerentveld, along with regular front runners in Sean Butcher, Will Butler, Scott Lehfeldt, Nathan Politch and Wayne Donaldson.

With Ford vs Holden vs Sigma sedans also n the program, gates open at 4.00pm and early racing commences at 4.45pm. The main program, featuring Super Sedans and Dirt Modifieds, gets underway at 6.00pm.
