• Off the back of recent minor podium finishes, Kristin Brown managed to go one better on Saturday night at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway, going on to claim a flag-to-flag win in the penultimate KRE F500 Championship Series round.

After securing pole position, thanks to a win and a third-place finish in her heat races, Brown was the dominant force in the feature race, leading the field from the drop of the green flag for the entire 18-lap distance to claim a deserved victory.

While Ryan Skennar remained fairly close to Brown through to the final lap, he was unable to launch an attack on the leader and was ultimately forced to settle for second, ahead of James Kennedy, who continued his consistent form to complete the podium in third, after starting sixth.

Managing to improve slightly on their starting positions, Tristan Johnson and Kaydon Iverson rounded out the top-five finishers in fourth and fifth respectively. Tasmanian-based youngster Jock Goodyer came home in sixth place, ahead of other top-10 finishers Ryan McNamara, rookie Nick Hodges, Piper Ogilvie and Cameron Bertuch. The remaining finishers included Brad Van Elswyk, Royce Harvey and Tomas Partington.

It was a disappointing night for Liam Williams, with the current Australian Champion recording a DNF, after a clash with a lapped car on lap five while running second put him out of contention and halted his bid to earn some valuable KRE F500 Championship Series points. Joining Williams on the infield were Nathan Pronger, rookie Randy Morgan, Marshall Lewis, Vicki Canfield and Glen Douglas.

Earlier heat-race wins were shared between Williams, Iverson, Pronger and Brown, while Johnson, Skennar and Kennedy were models of consistency throughout the night, each scoring a number of minor podium finishes during their heat races.

In the Junior Formula 500s, North Queensland visitor Brodie Davis, guest driving aboard the Bodie Smith car, was no doubt the driver to watch out for, having finished no lower than third in each of the four heat races, with a win, two seconds and a third place. Boyd Chaffey, Dekota Gay and Nicholas Whell collected a win apiece, with Chaffey and Gay also finishing within the top three in another one of their heat races.

The final KRE F500 Championship Series round will be held on the Saturday night of May 27 at Archerfield Speedway, where Williams will be hoping to make amends to consolidate his points lead. The Junior Formula 500s are set to be next in action at Archerfield Speedway on the Saturday night of May 20.
