• In breaking news - Victorian rising star Darren Mollenoyux has been announced as the driver of the #41 COWARA/JAK CIVIL Sprintcar Team car for the 2017-18 racing season.
Mollenoyux, 35, won the 2004 Australian Formula 500 Championship and then turned his hand to Sprintcar racing.
Over the past decade he has honed his craft in the premier Speedway division, and the past season was by far his best ever.
Back in January Mollenoyux finished a creditable second in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool.
The Classic is considered the biggest and best annual event in Australian Speedway, with the 45th edition again featuring over 100 competitors, including ten Americans.
Mollenoyux also took out the Avalon Raceway Track Championship and collected a new Ford Fiesta car for his efforts.
He won $10,000 for topping the Victorian Ultimate Sprintcar Championship series held at the Warrnambool circuit.
In addition he won the annual Easter Sprintcar Trail, held at three different tracks, and the grand prize of a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
For this season Mollenoyux has announced that he will be contesting the World Series Sprintcars competition in his own car.
Although the race schedule for the COWARA/JAK CIVIL Sprintcar Team is still being finalised, it is expected that Mollenoyux will race at several meetings here in Western Australia as well as most of the big shows on the east coast.
Stay tuned - the final calendar will be announced soon.
