• Saturday night (October 28) saw the Sedans take centre stage at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway with current South Australian Super Sedan Champion Dave Gartner and Street Stock veteran Carey Weston being the standouts on what was an entertaining evening.

After remaining undefeated throughout the heats Gartner was a class act during the 20-lap finale leading from start to finish to set a new track record of 4:43.7 taking 27 seconds off the 14-year-old track record set by the late Bill Miller. Second place in the small field went to Paul Blenkiron, who also went quicker than the old track record, with Steve Schwatz and Kym Jury completing the fishers.

The Street Stocks produced the best racing of the night with a big field of quality cars in attendance and the feature event was the best race of the night with Carey Weston getting the better of Neville Nitschke and Nigel Reichstein, with the latter leading the race in the early stages. In fact, the race winning move saw all three of the leaders racing three wide with Weston going from third to first on the outside.

Fourth place went to Phil Watson with Craig Buchanan, Northern Territorian Justin Brumfield, Cade Cox, Jamie Stewart, Matt Maynard and Darwin’s Simon Spitzbarth completing the top ten.

Just to prove how dominant the top three were throughout the night the heat winners were Nitschke (2), Reichstein and Weston.

The remaining Sedan class on the night were the Junior Sedans with a small field of drivers with Heath Thorne debuting his new Hyundai Excel in style winning the final ahead of Sharni Pitcher, Aaron Tranter, Tamika Pitcher and Jemma Chapman.

Throughout the evening the Junior Sedans had five heat races, including a round of heats where they were divided into boys and girls, with the races dominated by two drivers with Sharni Pitcher recording two wins and Heath Thorne three.

The Modlites were also on the program with Sprintcar standout Matt Egel having a guest drive in the Michael Brown #47 and after dominating the heats with two wins Egel came up one spot short in the reverse grid final as he was defeated by Michael Cowland. Third place went the way of Scott Webb with Danny Prade, Cory Hodgson, Brian Chadwick and Andrew Launer rounding out the field.

The next meeting at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway will be this Saturday night (November 4) with the Ultimate Pink Night. The night will feature Round 2 of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship SA, Late Models, Formula 500’s and V6 Sprints. All women on the night will be welcomed FREE (General Admission) in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The entertainment on the night will also feature former The Voice Australia contestant Claudia Migliaccio performing live from 2 – 4 PM.
