• Peter Nicola has won the opening round of the Fun City Victorian Super Sedan series held at Heartland Raceway Moama on Saturday night.

Dark skies hung around the venue most of the night but luckily rain stayed away, with the qualifying heats being of a high standard. Ryan Alexander, Mick Nicola Snr, Dave Gartner, Mick Nicola Jnr, Ash Bergmeier and Peter Nicola were all successful in the six heats contested.

This would set up a cracking thirty lap A Main, with the six heat race winners filling the first seven positions on the grid along with the consistent Anthony Randall who started from position four.

Ryan Alexander and Ash Bergmeier would share the front row, with the latter getting the best of the start, leading through the first four laps. Dave Gartner and Anthony Randall would lead the chasing pack in third and fourth respectively.

Alexander would make the move on lap four, taking the lead, with Peter Nicola moving to fourth a lap later deposing Randall back to fifth.

The young South Australian started to put a gap on the remainder of the field in what was a great spectacle, but it would amount to naught when Gavin Cooper spun in the main straight, bunching the field.

Shortly after Peter Nicola continued his charge through the field, moving to second place, starting the chase out after Alexander.

A great battle for the minor placings had drivers running two and three wide, with those using the highline getting very close to the fence. Lucas Roberts unfortunately got too close, and was removed from the fence via a tow truck with eight laps remaining.

On the restart Peter Nicola made his move, applying plenty of pressure to Alexander. Nicola made the move on lap twenty four, a lead he would hold to the chequered flag. Ryan Alexander narrowly finished second ahead of Ash Bergmeier and the fast finishing Mick Nicola

The Fun City Victorian Super Sedan Series will hold its next round at the Redline Raceway, Ballarat on Saturday, 16 December 2017.
