World Series Sprintcars is the premier speedway series in Australia, attracting the very best drivers from around the country and overseas, and the 2017/2018 tournament is no exception. This season, the championship features drivers from every mainland Australian state in the contracted driver roster, including established stars such as James McFadden, Jamie Veal and David Murcott, along with two American hot shots in Dominic Scelzi and Carson Macedo. However, it is current national champion Kerry Madsen who sits atop the series pointscore as the teams converge on Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway this Wednesday night (January 3) for round six. More than 40 drivers will contest the mid-week fixture and Brisbane fans will be treated to no less than five American stars in the field, including 9-time World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz.

In addition to McFadden, Veal, Murcott, Scelzi and Macedo, the 2017/2018 World Series Sprintcars contracted drivers include two Queenslanders in Lachlan McHugh and Kevin Titman, along with Jye OKeefe, Darren Mollenoyux, Jack Lee, Jason Pryde, Brad Keller, Daniel Harding, Mitchell Wormall, Glen Sutherland and Michael Saller, all of whom will be in action on Wednesday night and again on Friday and Saturday nights (January 5 & 6) for the Australian Open.

Whilst Schatz is without doubt the best credentialed driver in the field by a considerable margin, Logan Schuchart has clocked two feature race Archerfield in the last week and will be relishing the opportunity to take on our big names while, fresh from a podium finish here on Monday evening, Pennsylvanian Lucas Wolfe will also prove a formidable obstacle for the championship protagonists to overcome. In addition to Madsen and the 16 contracted drivers, additional competitors travelling from interstate to contest the three nights of World Series competition include heavy hitters such as Steven Lines, Tim Van Ginniken and Sam Walsh, with US-based Australian Lynton Jeffrey also amongst the entries.

The frenetic racing over the last week or so has certainly seen several locals find some form, setting the scene for an epic clash between the home track heroes and the invaders from out of town. Luke Oldfield upstaged the WSS posse here last season to score a memorable win and he will be joined in combat by the likes of former track champions in Andrew Scheuerle and Bryan Mann, plus Mitchell Gee, Peter Lack, Callum Walker, Brent Kratzmann, Allan Woods and another dozen competitors looking to make their mark against the biggest names in the sport.

In addition to the Sprintcar action, 20 Midgets will take to the track on Wednesday night for round five of the Polar Ice Track Championship, with Sydney’s Nathan Smee amongst the entries. Scott Farmer and Darren Vine have been the standouts so far this season and they will resume their battle against a field that includes Adam Wallis, Brock Dean, Reid Mackay and defending track champion Rusty Whitaker, who has been plagued by mechanical maladies so far this season and will be desperate for a trouble-free run that will carry him onto the podium.

Compact Speedcars and Modlites have also stepped up with big fields for a huge Wednesday night program, which gets underway with early racing from 5.00pm Sprintcar time trials are scheduled for 5.30pm and the main program kicks off at 6.00pm.
