There is now just over one week until the Speedway Sedans Australia, Coopers, National Street Stock Title, to be held at Adelaide Motorsports Park on Friday 16 February 2018 and Saturday 17 February 2018.
With 122 drivers entered it is going to be incredibly hard to qualify for the biggest event of the year, but Chris Stewart from Morwell in Victoria has set that as his goal for next weekends event.
The thirty four year old has been racing for half of his life in a State based class, before starting in Street Stock three seasons ago. Stewart competed in his first and only National Title two years ago, when he joined 136 others for the 2016 Title at Redline Raceway, where he qualified ninth in the C Main.
The best thing about the Aussie Title is the atmosphere and the people you meet, which makes it so awesome. Ideally it would be awesome to make the A Main, that would be my goal for the weekend, said Stewart.
Having never raced at Adelaide Motorsports Park, Stewart has resorted to watching videos and he likes what he sees.
He will have a brand new engine for the National Title after blowing and engine at the Mallee Masters at Swan Hill where he finished sixth, while earlier this Season at the Fist Full of Dollars events at Alexandra, Stewart finished fourth.
Stewart believes Anthony Beare, Mark Jennings and National Champion Rhys Heinrich will be hard to beat in Adelaide.
Stewart and his team will be leaving Morwell at around 3am on Tuesday morning to try and beat the dreaded Melbourne traffic with a 10.5 hour trip to Adelaide awaiting.
The car is a Ford FG Falcon built by myself, dad and brothers which we originally built three years ago not knowing anything about the class, but had a mishap last year where I ended up on my roof at Ballarat which forced me to reshell at the start of this season, Steward added.
I would like to especially thank my wife Kristy and two kids Liam and Hannah for all the help and support and time they allow me to work on the car. Dad Shane, Daniel, Mick, Flipper, Old Johnny, Reg, Kat and Mark Miles. I just can not wait to experience the second biggest Aussie title ever and catching up with everyone and having a few grogs. (afterwards of course).
