• Race fans will have their final opportunity to get a dose of dirt track action at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway this Saturday night (April 21) as the venue hosts it’s last meeting of the 2017/18 season. The season finale promises to be a great family night out with the World Record Demolition Derby Attempt along with the Grand Final of the MJS Street Stock Series and Wingless Sprints being the main events.

Currently the nomination list for the World Record Demolition Derby Attempt stands at close to 80 cars, and it continues to grow, the forward only Demo Derby. The event is open to front wheel drive 4 – cylinder vehicles only with eligible vehicles including models such as Hyundai Excels, Ford Lasers, Mazda 323’s, Toyota Corollas and Daihatsu Charades.

Previously the largest ever demolition derby had 123 participants and took place at Todd & Pollock Speedway, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, on 16 March 2002. It took 47 minutes before the winner (the last mobile car) was declared. Although there have been larger demolition derby events, involving several races, this is the largest single race Demo that has been recorded.

Prior to the Demo Derby getting underway there will be plenty of traditional Speedway action with a field of over 30 drivers from across South Australia and Victoria expected to compete in the Grand Final of the MJS Street Stock Series. For over 12 years the MJS Series has been one of the leading Street Stock Series in Australia and Murray Bridge is excited to be hosting the final once again. The Series was scheduled to be run last Saturday night but with the event being rained out it was rescheduled for this weekend.

The Wingless Sprints will provide another strong line-up as everyone will be out to claim the final MMs Main event win of the season. Joel Chadwick, Jake Ashworth, Anthony Tapley, Robert Heard, Jarman Dalitz and Travis Beasley will be among the potential winners.

A field of 16 Junior Sedans will also be on hand to provide their brand of door to door action as the stars of tomorrow get their final chance to race on the MMS clay for the season.

Children under 12 get in free so it will be a great night out for the entire family. Gates open 3pm with on track action from 5.30pm. www.speedwaytickets.com.au
