• The Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway season came to a chaotic close in front of a huge crowd on Saturday night as the MJS Street Stock Series and the World Record Demolition Derby Attempt were the feature events.

Current Australian Champion Anthony Beare emerged the winner of the 30 lap MJS Street Stock Series main event with Carey Weston and Nigel Reichstein completing the podium.

“I don’t think we were the class of the field tonight even though we remained undefeated. I think Carey was faster than us tonight, but we had the track position. This is a great series, we try to support it whenever we can, and we have been lucky this year that almost all of the rounds have suited our busy schedule” added Beare as he collected his trophy.

After starting on the pole Beare managed to lead every lap of the split clockwise, anti-clockwise direction 30-lap finale but he only won by .401 of a second over Weston who was glued to his rear bumper for the entire journey. Reichstein was over 3 seconds back with Neville Nitschke, Jayden Edwards, Mick Clark, Craig Buchanan, Jason Duell, Tony Prideaux and Cade Cox rounding out the top 10.

Six heats were conducted with Beare winning 2, while Weston, Matt Maynard, Ben Tuttle and Andy Maxwell Jr sharing the others. Jamie Stewart, Victorian Mick Clark, Ben Whitehead and Moss Buchanan transferred into the main event via the B-Main.

Northern Territory State Champion Jason Duell was voted to have had the “Best Presented Car” on the night.

Although the entry list fell short of the World Record the forward only Demo Derby still saw over 70 front wheel drive cars take to the track for a mammoth season ending event that had the crowd on their feet. The “race” itself took over 35 minutes to complete with the Derby coming down to a head to head winner take all battle between eventual winner Gus Smith in the #137 Ford Laser and the #21 of Ally Collins.

It has already been confirmed that the venue will attempt to break the World Record again next season.

The Wingless Sprint and Junior Sedans were also on the final program of the season with some good racing throughout the night.

Australian Champion Joel Chadwick ended his MMS season in style as he dominated the 20-lap Wingless Sprints A-Main as he defeated Jake Ashworth and Renee Pestka. Fourth place went to debutante Brent Fox who was returning to Speedway after a long break while Mildura’s Travis Beasley completed the top 5.

The Junior Sedan final came down to a battle of the Thorne’s as Nathan edged out Heath in a great battle. Paige Goldsack-Gwynne and Aaron Tranter completed the top 4 while fifth through to seventh was completed by the Pitcher sisters with Tamika leading home Sharni and Kirra-Lee.

Everyone involved with the Murray Machining and Sheds Speedway would like to thank the sponsors, competitors, officials and the race fans for their participation on the 2017/18 season and we look forward to seeing you all again when the track reopens in September.
