• An opportunity has risen to run the Quit Bunbury Speedway from next season. Expressions of interest are now open for interested people/businesses who would like to purchase the contract to run the Bunbury Speedway for the 2018-19 financial year onwards.

Ron Krikke, who has held the contract for the past 12 years, is now keen to hear from people who would like to take over the wheel and steer the venue into its next phase.

In announcing that the contract was up for negotiation, Krikke said after a lifetime of being involved in the sport he would like to give someone else the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the sport.

“I have enjoyed speedway from all aspects – firstly from being a spectator through to being a racer for more than 20 years and then as a sponsor, as well as being a promoter for 12 years,” Krikke said.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed being involved in this great sport but think now it is time for someone with fresh ideas to take the reins from here forward.

“The enjoyment I have got from being involved in all aspects of the sport has been immense and I have also enjoyed the interaction with the various divisions and competitors who have supported the venue.”

Krikke said it was not a matter of just handing over the keys to whoever takes on the contract – he will work very closely with them, guiding them in all aspects from planning the season and liaising with competitor groups, through to the advertising and promotions, working with track staff, event preparation and race night roles.

He will also outline the sponsorship arrangements that have been and are currently still in place, as well as what infrastructure that is included in the contract.

“Together with John, Krikke Boys Pty Ltd will definitely be involved very closely if the new organisation wants that support,” Krikke said.
