• While 2017-18 certainly hasn’t been the best of seasons for Peter Lack and the GW Racing team, it couldn’t have finished on a more positive note last Saturday night, with Lack making a return to victory lane in the final East Coast Logistics Sprintcar Series round at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway.

Having endured a myriad of bad luck and mechanical issues throughout the season, changing chassis four times in his last four outings, Lack was almost resigned to the fact that 2017-18 would be a season to forget. However, a solid performance in last Saturday night’s event finally broke his curse, delivering him with his first feature-race win since November of 2015, when he took out the inaugural Will Power 500, which doubles as an Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Qld round at his home track: Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway.

“The goal heading into any race meeting is to win or at least get on the podium, so to finally tick that box after such a long time is a huge relief,” admitted the driver of the Qld # 5 Mega Fuels supported Maxim, who resides in the Toowoomba suburb of Withcott in Queensland.

“I’d like to say a huge thanks to team manager Laurie Erhart for all of his efforts throughout the season, along with the rest of the team, my family and my sponsors. It’s certainly a team effort, so it’s great to be able to reward them with such a great result to finish off the season.”

Qualifying second in his time-trial group, Lack showed great pace during his opening heat race to come away with the win, before placing seventh in his second and final heat race following a mid-pack start.

Lining up on the outside of the second row for the 30-lap feature race, following a fourth-place finish in the dash, the 47-year-old racer wasted no time making his charge towards the front, immediately making his way into second place, before inheriting the lead from Randy Morgan on lap five when Morgan’s race came to a premature end.

Controlling the pace out in front for the next seven laps, Lack was then forced to endure an attack from Luke Oldfield, with the latter stealing first place and relegating Lack to second. Keeping his sights set on Oldfield, Lack continued to hold his line for the next 14 laps, before once again inheriting the lead when Oldfield’s race was also cut short.

From there, it was smooth sailing for Lack, who retained the lead through to the fall of the chequered flag to claim what was a long-awaited victory.

Last Saturday night’s meeting concluded the 2017-18 season for Lack and the GW Racing team, who are all looking forward to returning to the track next season, planning to contest close to 30 race meetings between Archerfield Speedway and Hi-Tec Oils Speedway tracks.

Lack would like to thank the following sponsors for their support throughout the 2017-18 season: GW Racing, Mega Fuels, Kawana, and Team Navy. Special thanks go to his wife Michelle and daughter Olivia, along with team owners Graham, Wendy and Laurie Erhart and pit crew members Mick, Jamie and Barry.
