• Following the final South Australian Wingless Sprint event of the season, won by William Caruso at the Sunline Speedway at Waikerie, the Australian Wingless Sprints of SA conducted their 2017- 2018 Presentation Evening. The night was well attended with several club members and competitors travelling from as far away as Mildura and the Riverland making for a great way to end what had been a long and successful season.

The night began with the presentation of cash prizes to the top six overall in the 2018 Easter Trail, that was held at the Timmis Speedway in Mildura (Friday) and the Murray Bridge Speedway on Easter Saturday and Sunday. The overall placings saw Jarman Dalitz finish 6th, Jake Ashworth 5th, William Caruso and Tyson Williams (NSW) equal 3rd, Joel Heinrich, Saturday nights A-Main winner in 2nd while Anthony Tapley, on the back of two A-Main victories, emerging as the overall Champion.

In addition to his victory in the Easter Trail points Championship the night proved to be a successful one for Anthony Tapley as he also collected a cabinet full of silverware as he emerged first in the season Heat Points, first in the Feature Race points and he received the Glass Helmet Trophy as he was voted as the Drivers Driver.

After a tough season, that saw her crash on several occasions Renee Pestka was the “unfortunate” recipient of the “Hard Luck Award”, Joel Heinrich was “Most Improved”, Mildura’s Jordon Bolitho was the “Rookie of the Year” while Jaime Lee Andrews received the “Encouragement Award”. Dual Australian Champion Joel Chadwick walked away with several trophies including the “Best Presented Car and Crew” and the “SA Driver of the Year”, that was no surprise considering he successfully defended both the Australian and South Australian Championships. Brad Evans also received a prestigious award on the night as he was voted as the Bill Wigzell Club Person of the Year.

With Tapley winning both the heat and feature race points championships the remaining podium place getters were Joel Chadwick and Jake Ashworth in the heat points while Chadwick and Joel Heinrich finishing second and third in the feature race points.

The Club also recognised the efforts of several volunteers throughout the night including the 2018/19 Drivers’ Rep Loretta Thibodeau, Scrutineers Anthony McMillan, Greg Readett, Duncan Evans and Darryl Sloan and Chief Steward Bryn Roocroft. Janice McMillan and Travis Beasley, along with the Committee were also thanked for their contributions throughout the season.

The venue for the 2019 South Australian Title was also announced with the Murray Bridge Speedway set to host the event over two nights on Friday 22nd & Saturday 23rd of March 2019. The AGM will also be held shortly on Saturday June 30th 2018 at 3pm at the St. Augustine’s Soccer Club with all current drivers being urged to attend to vote for the new committee, discuss club issues and most importantly rules of notice and motions. New faces on the committee are also encouraged.
