Two Time National Champion Michael Hamon has won a thrilling Street Stock 1000 at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway on Thursday night before a large crowd.

Michael Hamon only took the lead from Ethan Genev in the main straight leading to the chequered flag after an enthralling fifteen lap main event, on a brutal night of racing, with many drivers not making it to the Feature Race.

Genev took the lead after several false starts, with Wayne Thomson dropping to third place after running wide on the opening turn, allowing Hamon to move to second place. Genev opened up a handy lead but Hamon started to close with five laps remaining.

Slowly but surely the margin diminished with the pair levelling up several times in the final two laps, with Hamon making the ultimate outside pass in the main straight, delighting the huge holiday crowd.

Wayne Thomson, who showed some of his best form in recent times finished third ahead of State Champion Hayden Norman, while Daniel Ameduri had to fight off David Padmore to finish fifth and sixth respectively.

The Street Stock 1000 was the final event for Street Stock at the Collie venue before the SSWA Street Stock State Title to be held on the Australia Day Long Weekend.
