  • Matt Pascoe has won the opening round of the Brims Concrete Super Sedan Summer Slam, supported by Ford Wreckers Redcliffe, at Mothar Mountain Speedway, Gympie, on Friday night, before a big holiday crowd.

Prior to the forty lap main event, nine qualifying heats were contested, with Pascoe winning the opening heat by nearly half a lap, and in the process broke the one lap track record.

Sean Black accounted for Gavin Northfield and Darren Kane in heat two, with Wayne Randall narrowly winning heat three.

Justin Randall became the fourth different winner, when he took out heat four, with Mark Pagel making it five different heat race winners when he downed Dale Christensen and Darren Hawkings.

Wayne Randall broke the trend when he won his second heat convincingly, accounting for Pascoe and Black.

David Musch led all the way to win heat seven, with Darren Kane doing likewise to win heat eight. Pascoe won the final qualifying heat, which would give the four times Queensland Champion, pole position for the main event.

The main event would be a race of attrition, with more than half the starting field failing to finish, with the race taking 46 minutes to complete.

Brendan Doyle and Darren Saunders lasted one and two laps respectively, as Matt Pascoe took the lead.

Justin and Wayne Randall moved into second and third places, with Gavin Northfield fourth.

Sam Roza, Darren Kane and Wayne Dick from New South Wales all exited the race within a space of two laps, from lap ten to twelve.

Pascoe appeared to be a cut above the rest, always seemingly in control at each and every stoppage, with Wayne Randall moving to second after a stoppage on lap eleven.

Positions remained unchanged for the next twenty laps as Pascoe continued to impress., with Dale Christensen (26), Mark Towers (27), Mark OBrien (28) and Sean Black (28) all meeting their demise in quick succession. Kyall Fisher would be the final driver not to finish, with four laps remaining, as the infield started to fill.

Pascoe would go on to win by a second over Wayne Randall, while Justin Randall was a similar margin behind in third place. Mark Pagel passed Gavin Northfield with five laps remaining to claim fourth, while David Musch completed the top six.

Drivers will now back up for Saturday nights second round of the Summer Slam at the Ausdec Patios, Archerfield Speedway.
