• After sitting out of competition during January the Mitchell Motorsport / Eagle Ignition Leads #19 returned to racing on Saturday night (February 2) for the Lord Mayors Cup, which doubled as Round 5 of the QLD USC series at Toowoomba. With some of the best drivers in Australian Sprintcar racing including the likes of Kerry Madsen, James McFadden, Dave Murcott and Steven Lines joining the usual locals there was a very competitive field of 33 cars in the pit area the night was going to tough, and that prediction proved to be correct.

With the inversion being set at 6 for each heat, which is lower than usual for a Queensland race meeting, team driver Danny Reidy did a good job to time in 5th in his heat race group, staying inside the inversion.

Heat 1 saw Danny start from position 2, however a car that was not quite right and he dropped a few spots late in the race and ultimately finish in sixth. This would not make it easy on the team later in the night as he unfortunately failed to capitalise on his front row start.

Starting from position 5 in his second heat a steady controlled run on a fast, locked down track saw Danny maintain position and finish in fifth. Once the points were calculated he just missed a direct transfer straight into the 35 lap A-Main. Danny would start the B-Main on the pole and after a smart drive he finished second, therefore locking in an 18th starting spot in the finale.

In what was a difficult race that saw minimal passing opportunities Danny finished Round 5 of the USC QLD where he started, in 18th.

“It was a tough night for the team on an unusual track surface for Toowoomba. However, we just three nights left for the season for the Mitchell Motorsport Q19 racer, we are determined to regroup and be back on the front foot for the next round at Toowoomba on Saturday the 2nd of March” commented Team Owner Peter Mitchell.
