  • Dustin Higgs has won round five of the Super Sedan Summer Series at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night, before a big crowd as support for the World Series Sprintcars.
Higgs defeated Kevin Bell and Gary Higgs in an exciting race, where Dustin Higgs led from start to finish.

Higgs and Chris Pavlovich would start on the front row, while Kevin Bell and Kemble Aylett would start on row two, with Higgs, Pavlovich and Bell running two and three wide in the early stages.

A stoppage on lap six bunched the field, with a mechanical issue to Chris Pavlovich on the restart causing Kemble Aylett and Gary Higgs to take evasive action, causing a further stoppage.

Dustin Higgs made a great restart, opening a handy lead over Bell, Aylett, Rob Knox, Kyle Larson and Gary Higgs, with the latter starting to make the outside moves work, with Kyle Larson following Higgs up near the fence. Eventually Higgs made his way to third at the demise of Aylett and Knox, and set out after Bell.

Bell meanwhile, was closing the gap on Dustin Higgs, and with two laps remaining Bell closed the gap to two car lengths, while Gary Higgs was storming home. Dustin Higgs held his nerve and held on to win by two car lengths over Kevin Bell, with Gary Higgs a close third.

Earlier, the opening heat was declared after a dramatic moment for Craig Gilbert who initially almost rolled over, and then he fired the car back up it burst into flames, taking a considerable time to bring under control. Kemble Aylett would be credited with the win from Chris Pavlovich and Adam Campbell.

Heat two was much more sedate in comparison, with Kevin Bell successful, downing Kyle Larson and Chris Pavlovich, who made all of the moves after starting from the back row.

Dustin Higgs would win the final heat of the night after starting on row three, defeating Gary Higgs and Damo Wallinger.

Dustin Higgs win makes him the fourth different winner of an A Main in the series in five rounds. It is also a personal triumph for Higgs after three years out of the sport due to illness, something not lost on the Bunbury crowd, who gave him a rousing round of applause at the presentation.

Round six of the Super Sedan Summer Series will be held next Saturday night at the Manjimup Speedway.
