• Brett Milburn took his first Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series feature win this season at Western Speedway Hamilton last night which also helped him extend his Series points lead over the luckless Jordyn Charge.

Engine Starts and time trails started the night’s action on a very well prepared racing surface that was not be touched all night long and produced great racing throughout the night.

But it was not all god news for one driver, Jordyn Charge experienced engine dramas at engines start that would put him out for the night.

With time trials over it was down to business for the qualifying heats, with the track in top condition a few drivers were caught out with the good drive, Chris Solomon was one of those drivers. In his first heat race Chris pulled a big wheel stand that would see him hit the turn one wall on the race start that saw significant damage to his chassis that would not allow him to race competitively during the rest of the night’s action.

Grant Stansfield topped the points table heading into the Eureka Garages & Sheds A Main to give him pole position with Brett Milburn lined up alongside on the front row. With the A main order set it was Adam King and Peter Doukas on row two, Tim Hutchins and Ryan Davis on row three followed by Dennis Jones, Scott Enderl, Charles Hunter, Brayden Parr, Terry Rankin, Sam Wren and the last chance qualifiers of Mark Carlin, Daniel Pestka, Stephen Spark, David Donegan, Leigh Mugavin and Rod Matthews.

Grant Stansfield took the lead going into turn one at the drop of the green flag to lead Milburn, King, Doukas, Davis and Hutchins in the early stages of the race. Milburn was keeping in close proximity of Stansfield but Stansfield looked to have good car speed as the leaders headed into lapped traffic seven laps in that allowed Milburn to close the gap and find a way past Stansfield to take the race lead.

Further back Doukas and King were chasing the leaders down but lapped traffic was playing a part in the race with the top four drivers gaps closing then opening up again when a caution on the track came on for two drivers that spun in turn one and at the same time Matthews hit the turn four wall and was out of the race.

Back under way and Milburn was now in clear control over Stansfield who had Doukas all over him the take second place at just over one third distance before the red lights were on for Spark who had rolled in turn two. With all cars coming to stop the VA22 car of Mugavin had an exhaust fire that saw it but down his right rear tire to end his race along with Spark.

Milburn got a good jump on the restart to lead Doukas leaving King and Stansfield to fight it out for third place, now back in the field both Parr and Pestka were moving thru the field, Parr was up to fifth place after starting from P10 while Pestka was into eighth place from his fourteenth starting spot.

As the laps ran down the leaders were back into lapped traffic, Doukas was looking strong and was in striking distance of Milburn. Any small mistake and Doukas would be thru but Milburn didn’t give Doukas that chance and went on to take his first Eureka Series feature of the season to defeat Doukas by just over 0.384 of a second. Stansfield took third place with King only half a second back in fourth, Parr finish in fifth place while Jones rounded out the top six.

Rounding out the race finishers from seventh place back were Hunter, Pestka, Rankin, Carlin, Wren, Donegan, Davis and Enderl.

Heat winners on the night were S11 Scott Enderl, V48 Adam King, V68 Brett Milburn, V19 Sam Wren, V95 Ryan Davis, and V32 Stephen Spark.

Top six drivers to transfer from the B Main to the Eureka Garages & Sheds A Main were VA12 Mark Carlin, S27 Daniel Pestka, V32 Stephen Spark, VA75 David Donegan, VA22 Leigh Mugavin & V9 Rod Matthews.
