• It may have been fifth place in the Super Sedan A Main for Kemble Aylett, but that was a significant move forward for Aylett at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway on Saturday night.

It was significant in that it was the first A Main he has finished for the season in the domestic series, after a horror run of mechanical woes.

Driving his spare car, while his main car awaits in Mt Gambier for the upcoming National Title, Aylett would start on the front row in the opening heat and took the lead immediately after starting on the outside of State Champion, Chris Pavlovich.

The race went without incident until the last lap, with Aylett holding a commanding lead of three seconds. Fellow competitor, Craig Gilbert almost rolled his car in Pits Bend, and on restarting the car, it burst into flames, causing a significant fire and delay. The race would be declared with Aylett bringing up his first win of the night, with the car looking strong.

Ayletts second heat, would be much tougher, starting from the back, and with series leader, Chris Pavlovich, second placed Kevin Bell, and third placed Steve Larson, along with Dustin Higgs and Kyle Larson all in the field, so it proved to be. Despite having a good battle with Adam Campbell, Aylett was not able to really get into the race and challenge the leaders and would finish sixth.

The fifteen lap A Main would see Aylett start on the second row beside Kevin Bell, with Pavlovich and Dustin Higgs on row one. Aylett would stay with the leading trio in the opening laps, with a stoppage on lap six, when Damo Wallinger spun in Pits Bend.

Aylett and fellow driver, Gary Higgs, would be forced to take evasive action in the back straight, when Chris Pavlovich broke down, causing a further restart. Aylett momentarily moved to third before falling into the clutches of Gary Higgs and Rob Knox, before a late battle with Kyle Larson with the pair swapping positions in the final three laps.

After the race it was revealed damage to a shock absorber in the opening heat, which hampered the performance of the car for the remainder of the night, however, with many of the spares sitting with the house car in Mt Gambier, changing it was not an option.

Aylett will now focus on the National Title which is now just weeks away.
