• From a young age, Brett Milburn has always dreamed of Australian Sprintcar Championship glory, and last weekend at Simpson Speedway in Victoria, he achieved this dream by winning the Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship.

In what was only his fifth outing with the Phil and Sharon Seymour-owned PJS Motorsport team, Milburn was at the pointy end of the field throughout the Australian Championship weekend.

After the opening night of the Australian Championship, Milburn was second in the point standings and then he went on to start the Australian Championship deciding feature race on the outside of the front row alongside pole sitter David Murcott.

From the drop of the green flag in the feature race, Milburn and Murcott battled over the early stages before Milburn got the upper hand on lap five and moved into the lead. Once out in front, Milburn controlled the pace for the rest of the 40-lap event and went on to score the winning spoils.

Regarded as one of the veterans on the Victorian Sprintcar scene, Milburn, who has competed in speedway over the past three decades across a range of classes, was over the moon to capture Australian Championship glory - adding to his Australian Wingless Sprint Championship triumph back in 2013.

“To win an Australian Championship in Sprintcars is a wonderful achievement and something that is a dream come true,” commented the VA # 29 Arbon Equipment Pty Ltd / A Plus Powder Coating supported Triple X racer, who interestingly finished fourth in the inaugural Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship back in 2004 at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway.

“The entire PJS Motorsport team did a fantastic job over the whole weekend and we were consistency quick from the first the opening heat race through to Sunday night’s feature race, and we were able to come away with a winning result.”

Milburn was quick to praise his car owners for helping him achieve Australian Championship success.

“I can’t thank team owners Phil and Sharon Seymour for the opportunity to race for them and to take out an Australian Championship win is just the icing on the cake,” he expressed.
“Ever since we teamed up to run selected 360 Sprintcar race meetings over the past two seasons, we have enjoyed our fair bit of success and the main focus, apart from doing well out on the track, is to have a great time.”

Milburn is now going to return to his own 410 Sprintcar team to attempt to wrap up the Eureka Garages & Sheds Series over the next fortnight, before he will run back with the PJS Motorsport team on April 4 for the second Triple Crown Series round at Moama’s Heartland Raceway and then the third and final Triple Crown Series round, which doubles as the Diggers Cup, on April 18 at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.

Unfortunately, Milburn won’t be able to contest the opening Triple Crown Series round at Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway on March 28, due to attending a wedding.
