  • In one of the biggest projects ever undertaken by the volunteers of the Collie Racing Drivers Association in its history, club members are proud to unveil the new state of the art lighting system which has been installed for the start of the 2019/2020 season.

As one of the leading provincial Speedway’s in Western Australia, apart from the creation and subsequent opening of the venue in 1971 at the Williams Road facility, and then the installation of the Concrete Wall and Catch fence in 1991, the Winter that has just passed has been one of the most significant.

The first stage of a multi stage project to enhance the Speedway, has seen 15 x 12 metre poles put into position to replace wooden poles, some which have been standing since that opening night in 1971. The light towers have 2 x 500 LED Flood lights on each one, the latest in lighting technology, with a lux reading more than three times that of the previous lighting system.

Supported by the Collie Community Bank, who provided part funding for the project, the installation of the lights comes just seven days before the opening night of the season.

The venue has also undertaken a major track overhaul, with the track being widened from 18 metres to 20 metres in both the straights and corners.

The new lights have been put through their paces and have been installed from turn four, down the main straight and into turn one.
Stage two of the project, will see the other half of the lights erected next season. Along with the existing flood lights on the infield, the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway venue will become one of the brightest in Australia upon its completion.
