  • Cameron McKenzie put in arguably his best driving performance in his second season of Sprintcar competition, when he finished eleventh in Saturday nights Krikke Boys Shootout at the Perth Motorplex.

Despite the result not being his best placing of the season, McKenzie was in sixth place on lap sixteen after starting from position seventeen, due to driving a good race and others falling by the wayside in what became a bruising affair.

A rollover on the opening lap to Daniel Harding, followed by two further stoppages in the first three laps, saw the race take a while to reach a rhythm, and when it did McKenzie was in the thick of it, making some good passes on the outside, as the cushion was right up against the wall in the 30 lap main event.

On lap sixteen a crash in the front straight, in front of a bumper crowd would see five cars involved, and as luck would have it, McKenzie found himself in sixth place.

With ten laps remaining McKenzie was still sixth, and with five remaining was in seventh place, but lost four spots in the final five laps, as the bottom of the race track came in, while McKenzie persisted on the top side.

“We are really happy, that is probably the best we have done here at the Motorplex at the moment. The track was slick to the fence, and the bottom really only came on in late in the race, and I probably persisted with being near the fence for too long and a few guys got by me on the bottom, that’s on me, I persisted with the top, and I had it working well through the race, and it is probably the quickest we have been around here yet”, said McKenzie after the race.

McKenzie is already looking to next season, with expectations to build on the platform set from his first two seasons.
