• The upcoming South Australian Sprintcar season just got a whole lot bigger with the announcement that 410ci Sprintcars will race on a temporary, purpose-built dirt oval at the 25th Anniversary Vailo Adelaide Supercars 500. This historic event is in addition to the 2025 Australian Sprintcar Title in January at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway, providing race fans in South Australia the opportunity to witness two of the biggest Sprintcar races of the 2024/25 Australian season.

The excitement is already starting to build with the local Sprintcar stars looking forward to taking on the Invitational field, which will feature High Limit racer and former Australian Champion James McFadden, at the NAPA Speedway, including 2023/24 Sprintcars SA Shootout Series Champion Luke Dillon.

“It is going to be a great thing for our sport. I honestly think we have the greatest form of motorsport in the world and this event will provide the opportunity to showcase our racing to a whole new audience. To be honest, we race in front of the converted, so hopefully we will gain some new fans. Adelaide race fans haven’t been able to see Sprintcars in Adelaide for seven years so it’s a great chance to get those fans back. I was at the launch and the Promotional Team really want to do this properly and make it the biggest Sprintcar race in Australia” added Luke when we spoke.

In addition to Luke several other leading South Australian drivers are looking forward to the racing at the NAPA Speedway in the Adelaide Parklands. Murray Bridge racer Ryan Jones and current State Champion Matt Egel shared their thoughts on the historic event.

“I see this event having multiple positives. This will put Sprintcars in front of tens of thousands of people which is good for Sprintcar racing in general. It can also show the government how big the sport is and maybe lead to a permanent track which Adelaide has lacked for way too long” added Matt.

“Treaded Hoosiers and a hint of methanol is just what the parklands needs” joked Ryan Jones when he was contacted about the news of racing in metropolitan Adelaide. “But in all seriousness, the exposure to a new type of fan base is exactly what our sport is in need of. Other motorsport orientated spectators will get to see, touch and smell Sprintcar racing who otherwise wouldn’t, so it can only be a good thing” added last seasons Battle of the Bridge winner.

The NAPA Speedway – Sprintcars in the City will be held on Thursday November 14 and Friday November 15, 2024.
