• Junior Standard Saloon racing bounced back onto the map in a big way on November the 30th with the first round of the LV Saw & Core Series run with eleven youngsters taking to Nyora Raceway with Steven Danks (# `10 Rosedale Firewood Supplies – Falcon)coming out on top of the night after a great stoush between himself and Victorian Champion Tyson Cull.

Each youngster competed in three heats before lining up for the all important feature race with a good mix of experienced and inexperienced boys and girls amongst the entrants in the ‘Full Noise Motorsports’ supported round.

Mount Beauty racer (North East of Victoria) Cooper Cappellari (# 5 Mount Beauty Service Centre – Holden) who had never raced at Nyora started from pole position in the first heat with Cull, AJ Lawrence & Danks surrounding him in positions two to four. On a race track that the field haven’t run with regularity previously, all drivers had to adjust to the driving style required. Cull jumped to an early lead with Cappellari & Danks in tow across the line for lap one.

Cull held the lead until the beginning of lap five when he pulled infield overheating leaving Danks to assume the lead and motor on to victory ahead of Cappellari, Ty Hutton, Lawrence, Bailey Perkins, Ally Morrison (# 13 Pakenham 4 x 4 – Ford), Jack Yeomans, Mowat and Casey Lovell (# 77 Drouin Waste Recyclers – Holden). Michael Suckling pulled infield without finishing the first lap with a flat tyre.

Lawrence (# 55 LV Core & Saw – Ford) & young lady racer Casey Lovell began from the front row for heat two with Suckling & Hutton behind. Lawrence quickly assumed the lead with Suckling # 78 (Sinnbeck Signs – Falcon) in chase followed by Lovell, Danks & Cappellari.

On lap two Lawrence pulled infield after the fan belt let go whilst Suckling snaffled the lead with Danks on his heels. Danks took over the lead on lap seven from Suckling, Cappellari & Cull before the latter two got by Suckling & Cull (# 1 Sherritt & Sons Float & Tilt Trailer Hire – Ford) in front of Cappellari for a brief moment as Cappellari moved back to second on lap nine and Cull wasn’t done taking back second place on lap ten in the race to the line.

Official results Danks, Cull, Cappellari with a flat tyre, Hutton (# 17 Rosedale Panels – Holden), Perkins, Lovell, Morrison in her first ever Speedway Sedan race meeting, Yeomans (# 24 K1 Racegear – Ford)& Jamison Mowat.

The final heat action began with Hutton, Danks, Cull & Lovell at the top of the pack to greet the green. Danks led the Victorian Champion Cull to the line for lap one with Hutton & Suckling next in line.

For nine laps Danks led Cull until the very last lap where Cull put the move on and took the lead to win from Danks as they passed a lapped car three wide, Hutton, Suckling, Cappellari, Lovell, Lawrence, Perkins (# 4 Moe Recyclers – Ford), Morrison, the very smooth and straight racing Yeoman and Mowat (# 95 Wombat Family Racing – Ford).

Finally the field took to the track in the fifteen lap final with all accept Perkins who had mechanical issues just prior to the final started beginning the race. Cull showed early pace leading Danks, Cappellari, Hutton & Lawrence.

The youngsters motored on at a brisk pace until lap seven when Danks took over the lead from Cull.

A racing incident involving Hutton & Lawrence finished with Hutton connecting with the concrete wall and able to restart whilst albeit at the rear of the field until race stewards deemed Lawrence the cause of the incident and he was sent to the back to restart struggling with steering issues.

Danks marched to the line a winner ahead of Cull who had beaten him twice in recent weeks making it third time lucky for Danks, Cappellari, Hutton, Suckling, Morrison, Lovell, Yeomans & Mowat.

All the kids had a great time together and on track racing. The rookies did well and the fastest youngsters at the front of the field really showed how great the division has been to develop driving skills. With three more rounds to go there is a lot more fun to be had.
