• During his career Ryan Jones has won some of the biggest Speedway events South Australia has to offer including the George Tatnell Cup and the Ross Wright Memorial and he almost added the Tim Crouch Memorial to his resume but he came up one spot short as he claimed the runner-up position in the prestigious Speedcar event. Not only was Jones the leading South Australian in the 30 lap finale but his result was also the best so far for a South Australian during the inaugural Speedcar Pro Series.

Despite the fact that Jones hadn’t competed in a Speedcar since February he looked right at home in the Bert and Helen Fenton owned Esslinger powered Stealth and came within a few car lengths of claiming the biggest Speedcar race of the Murray Bridge season. “I can’t thank Bert and Helen Fenton enough for the opportunity to drive their little racecar and Phil and Jake from Lonsdale Competition Tyres who put in a big effort to make this deal possible” added an elated Jones following the event.

“We didn’t really get going until the feature as we had issues with the fuel system in qualifying and the opening heat but we got it sorted out for the second heat and the final. We got caught up in an early crash and lost quite a few spots but we just hung in there and managed to finish second” added Jones.

After attempting to make a shakedown run at Murray Bridge on the Thursday night it looked as if Jones could have been a non-starter come Saturday night as an issue with the fuel cell played havoc with the fuel delivery to the engine. “Another big thank you must go out to Tyrone Hart as he came through at the 11th hour with a fuel cell we could borrow, without his help we literally could not have run on Saturday night”.
