• The Super Rods took to Mortlake’s Mid Western Speedway on Saturday 14th of December, with Cobden’s Jason Grayland taking his second victory at the venue this season taking out Round two of the Track Championship when he led home Warrnambool’s Shane O’Shannassy and Dale Walsh of Cobden.

The first heat of the night went to O’Shannassy when he led home Grayland with Warrnambool’s Wayne Williams home in third. Grayland was able to go one better in the second heat when he lead home Corio’s Paul Singleton with O’Shannassy in third. The last heat of the night went the way of Walsh ahead of Grayland and O’Shannassy again rounding out the top three.

The front row of the final was made up of the nights top point scorers with Grayland and O’Shannassy making up the front row, they were followed by Singleton, Walsh, Williams, Ken Baynes and Tim Perry making his Super Rod debut. Michael Coad and Craig Devlin were unable to take the field for the final due to engine dramas.

From the drop of the green it was Grayland who was able to capture the best of the start taking to the lead ahead of O’Shannassy, with Walsh moving into third ahead of Singleton and Williams. O’Shannassy followed Grayland waiting for the wily veteran to make the slightest mistake but opportunity never arose with Grayland going on to take the win ahead of O’Shannassy who was under pressure from Walsh home in third, followed by Singleton, Williams, Baynes and an excited Perry who was able to finish the nights racing without incident.

Super Rod drivers will now take some time off to enjoy the festive season before returning Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Saturday 4th of January and Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway on Sunday the 5th of January.
