• F500 SPEEDWEEK, MINI SPRINT STATE TITLE & FOXY MEMORIAL FOR JUNIORS FOR A BIG FRIDAY NIGHT AT DARLINGTON

This Friday the 3rd of January all roads lead to Mid Western Speedway in Darlington where the Mortlake Speedway Club will host a show with eighty place race drivers competing including many western district locals with the biggest part of the show being the Formula 500 Speedweek series round number five including many racers from Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania & South Australia joining the Victorians to lay claim to the series win and bragging rights as they head into their state and national titles in the coming months.

The Formula 500s field includes names of racers that that will probably feel aggrieved that they have been missed however in amongst the names are last years Speedweek champion Nathan Pronger from Queensland and whom happens to be current Queensland & New South Wales Champion, brother and sister Charlie & Kristin Brown also from Queensland, Jye O’Keefe the current Victorian champion last years Mid Western Speedweek round winner Rob Trewartha, current West Australian Champion Andrew Priolo, Victorian brothers Dion & Chris Bellman who always do well at Mid Western Speedway and Jessica Moulden from Cobden not just a lady, a gun former Australian champion racer to boot!

One of the more interesting competitors on the night is Owen Milton whom is racing in the Formula 500s and is the defending champion on the same night in his Mini Sprintcar looking to go back to back in the Victorian Mini Sprintcar state title. Milton who just won the latest round in the Mini Sprint Gold Cup series at Bairnsdale will have stiff competition from Stuart Ferguson and son Luke, his uncle Danny Milton & inform racer Kevin Bomford. '

Fans might get a little confused at the visual similarities between the 500s and the Mini Sprints however the engines are up to 600cc for the 500s and the Mini Sprints run 1050cc bike engines to 1500cc car engines and weight about 200kgs heavier amongst other differences.

In the annual 'Foxy Memorial' for Junior Sedans the competition will be fast and furious amongst a number of fierce competitors trying to get one up on others before heading across the national title in Western Australia. With both A & B division racers on track the A division will be hard thought between the likes of Steven Watts, Jackson Lunt, Mason Swandale and Mortlake club members Alex & Harry Ross, the race will be very hard to pick a winner in.

In the Limited Sportsman feature on the same race meeting Victoria 1 will battle Victoria 2 as Joe Aston and Mick Rizzoli go at it with Craig Ansell in the same field. The Limited Sportsman are starting to pick up some numbers and the intensity at the front of the pack is no less than any other division and it is very difficult to pick the winner in the pack.
Gates open to the public to get seating at 3.30pm with racing from 6pm. For enquiries the track contact number is 0491 175 228 or email darlingtonspeedway@hotmail.com.au prior to race day.

Entry will cost $20 per adult, $15 for aged and invalid pensioners, $45 for a family ticket for 2 adults and 2 kids 12 to 16 whilst kids 11 and under are no charge, kids aged 12 to 16 $10 each and kids 11 and under are free.
