  • Tyabb youngster Luke Hickson grew up at Nyora Raceway & fittingly his first Victorian Title in his first senior speedway division, the Victorian Mini Sprints will be held at his home track on the 7th of February.

    Sixteen year old Hickson from Tyabb on the Mornington Peninsula whom previously raced with the Yarra Valley Speedway Kart Club, can’t wait to turn the wheels next week & is aiming for a strong finish yet not putting any pressure on himself with predictions.

    With a Stephen Bell built engine in a Kevin Bomford & Danny Milton built car, Hickson will be well equipped for a charge at the podium should things go super well for him.

    His crew of mum Debbie Hickson, Peter Phillips & Chris Milton helping out along with the crew chief & car owner Danny Milton ensures that nothing gets overlooked and that Hickson is ready to go for each and every race available to him.

    This past November at Drouin, Hickson finished inside the top five in his first ever Mini Sprint final & so far that ranks up as his favourite performance behind the wheel against the likes of Dave May, Kevin Bomford & Owen Bulman.

    Hickson has a lot of respect for all competitors, however the man that stands out is Matt Parsons for whom Luke used to crew for. Parsons taught Hickson plenty of things he needed to know about the cars and Hickson is putting that knowledge to good use on track.

    Venues such as Drouin, Darlington, Nyora, Redline & Bairnsdale have already been raced on and tamed, & it is Bairnsdale that comes out on top as his favourite venue to this point.

    The Victorian Speedway Council wish Luke the best of luck at Nyora Raceway.
