• With multiple feature-race wins and currently leading the Central Queensland Rumble Series, Brad Metcalfe has had a strong 2016 season in the Formula 500s and is now carrying on that form into season 2016-17.

Metcalfe, from Moranbah in Central Queensland, has enjoyed a pleasing to the season, having won each of the first three rounds of the four round Central Queensland Rumble Series, two at McCosker Rocky Speedway in Rockhampton and one at Gladstone Speedway, along with another two feature-race wins at Gladstone Speedway and Mac’s Speedway in Mackay.

“I’ve shown great speed this season and I couldn’t be happier with our results,” expressed the 48-year-old Moranbah Speedway President, who enjoys being able to race all year round in his NQ # 9 P.I Technical Services supported Yamaha R6 powered PMP car.

“I wouldn’t be able to do it without the amazing support of my family, my sponsors and my team. We put a lot of effort into racing, particularly the Central Queensland Rumble Series, so coming away with pleasing results makes it all worthwhile.”

Metcalfe, who currently works in the local mining industry, has spent the last 30 years racing speedway, first taking to the track at 18 years of age racing Outlaw Sprint Sedans. Apart from speedway, he also a stint in Go Karts on the tar circuits, which saw him managed to win Central Queensland and North Queensland Titles.

Stepping into Formula 500s nearly two decades ago, Metcalfe has a lot of experience racing against some tough competition around the country. In 2007, while contesting the Australian Title at Maryborough Speedway in Queensland, Metcalfe had one of his career highlights, when he powered through the field in the Australian Title deciding feature race from position 13 to be in podium contention, up until he crashed in the latter stages but still went on to finish in sixth.

Planning to contest the Queensland Title at McCosker Rocky Speedway on the Saturday night of March 11, Metcalfe is hoping to perform strongly due to it being familiar territory and having also scored multiple top-five finishes in past Queensland Title attempts.

Priding himself on presentation, Metcalfe will debut a retro white paint scheme for one of his sponsors in Penrite Oil, when he travels to Murray Bridge Speedway in South Australia on April 14-15 to contest the Australian Title, where he is aiming for a top-10 finish, which was a feat he has achieved twice in his career – the most recent being in 2014 at the Perth Motorplex in Western Australia.

For his next appearance, Metcalfe will head to McCosker Rocky Speedway to contest the fourth and final round of the Central Queensland Rumble Series on the Saturday night of January 21, 2017.

Metcalfe would like to thank the following season 2016-17 sponsors for their valued support: P.I Technical Services, Penrite Oil, Rocky Resorts, Moranbah Mechanical and Towing, CFMEU Moranbah North Lodge, Brian Industries, Jettco Developments, Dominator Photography, Thommo’s Race Graphics and PMP Chassis. He would also like to give special thanks to his wife Tracy, his daughters Brooke, Tegan and Emilee, his sons Cody and Blake and his pit crew Vance, Jack, Lakey and Krusty.
