• Newcastle (New South Wales) Australia Legend Car driver Dan Morris is within a month of his first ever USA racing experience and he can’t wait.

The colourful second-generation racer (his Dad Gary was a very successful Sedan racer at Newcastle Speedway back in the day) is gearing up for a three-week tour racing at some of Pennsylvania’s most iconic Speedways.

Morris will race with PA car owner and racer Chad Earnst as part of his two car team.

“We can’t thank Chad and his team enough for this fantastic experience,” says Morris, “we just want June 8 to hurry up and get here so we can get over there and get cracking.”

The man referred to by Australian announcers as “the Human art gallery” due to he and partner Kiera’s amazing collections of body ink comes into the Pennsylvanian experience with some excellent race form.

Earlier this month at his home track Valvoline Raceway in Parramatta Morris battled for the lead for much of the first ever Australian Championship and looked to be a certain podium contender until a disappointing steering component failure ruled his iconic ‘Rusty 59’ Legend Car out of the late part of the race.

“It was pretty devastating,” Morris recalls, “because I think we were fast enough to get the job done. I mean you never know how these things are going to pan out but anyone who is good enough to run in the top five in this class is good enough to win I think. It was hard to watch the rest of that race go on without me.”

At this stage by Morris’ calculations he may well finish third in the Valvoline Raceway Legend Car points.

A former Speedway kart racer 33-year-old Morris is in his second full season with the Legends and is a Boilermaker by trade.

He lives with partner Kiera and their two bull terrier pups in the tiny rural hamlet of Kurri Kurri where despite its small population many Speedway and motor racing champions have been born and bred.

Morris will race at Path Valley Speedway Park, Lincoln Speedway, Susquehanna Speedway and Trail-way Speedway for three weeks next month.

The colourful character will join fellow Aussie racer Hayden Pascoe who has already had a very successful start to his Western Pennsylvanian racing tour.

“Hayden’s been really helpful so far and we’re really grateful. We can’t wait to get over to the warmer weather and go racing,” says Morris.

Currently Daniel and Kiera are looking for accommodation for their three-week stay in Pennsylvania but all other elements of the tour are sorted.

    Ends release…
