• Toowoomba’ Speedway racers have united under one banner as the covers have come off the new “Toowoomba Top Guns” logo ahead of this weekend’s Ultimate Pink Night at Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, Charlton.

Racers across all divisions will adopt the logo on their race cars, signalling a united approach to promoting speedway across the Darling Downs and beyond.

Likable Withcott legend, Peter Lack proudly applied the decal on Monday and was upbeat about the area’s current depth of talent in the sport.

“This is a great initiative and something we can all be proud of, in representing this awesome part of Australia, wherever we go to race. I remember as a kid going to the racing and always barracking for the racers from my own town, and I hope that Toowoomba’s Speedway fans, young and old, can cheer for us wherever we race because there’s enormous talent in this city.”

Fellow Toowoomba region raised Sprintcar ace, Andrew Scheuerle echoed Lack’s comments as he applied the logo to his Ausdeck Group Q25 tail tank.

“We are all very parochial and proud of this region, and even though I lived away from the area for a few years, I feel very much at home living back on the Darling Downs and this label just puts us into one big group of racers who are very proud of our part of the world and what we’ve achieved in the sport.”

Reigning NSW and QLD Modified Sedan Champion, Rodney Pammenter embraced the idea, predicting that bringing every racer from the area under one umbrella could foster a territorial approach to racing in other regions.

“If the Toowoomba Speedway fans get behind this, it may just create another rivalry at our events that we didn’t bargain for, and what I’d love to see is some “Teams Racing” in the future, where the best racers from Toowoomba take on teams from Kingaroy, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast – wherever! I loved Teams Racing when I was younger and I’d love to bring that back and represent our region!”

The Toowoomba Top Guns will be well represented this weekend at the annual “Ultimate Pink Night” where all General Admission women receive free entry, as Hi-Tec Oils Speedway raises money for breast cancer research. The Opening Ceremony begins at 6pm after qualifying and pre-program racing, before Ultimate Sprintcars contest the 3rd Annual Will Power 500 and Modified Sedans and Wingless Sprints enter another round of their respective club championships.
