Gary Higgs has won the prestigious Bill Gibbings Memorial for Super Sedans at Attwell Park in Albany on the course of the Easter Weekend.
Despite a set back on Saturday night which saw Higgs miss a heat, Higgs along with Chris Pavlovich would start on the front row for the traditional fifty lap event.
Higgs would get a great start, being chased through the first two laps by Pavlovich, who would then spin in turn two, sending Pavlovich to the rear of the field.
Higgs did have a scary moment fifteen laps from the finish when he was involved with Peter Wallinger who spun in front of the leader. Higgs survived, but Wallinger retired as did Kevin Bell and Adam Campbell on the same lap.
Higgs after this was untroubled, opening up a commanding lead. The battle for the minor placings was a good one between Dean Shore, Damon Trouchet and Bert Vosbergen, with Trouchet getting the better of Shore with seven laps remaining to move into second place.
By this time though, Higgs was half a lap in front, in a dominant display, with Trouchet holding off Shore and Vosbergen in the concluding stages to finish second. Tristan Green and Luke OHanlon would be the remaining drivers to complete the race.
Final, 50 laps: 1. W81 Gary Higgs, 2. W3 Damon Trouchet, 3. W34 Dean Shore, 4. W4 Bert Vosbergen, 5. W6 Tristan Green, 6. W127 Luke OHanlon (47), DNF: W5 Kevin Bell (33), W30 Peter Wallinger (33), W71 Adam Campbell (33), W25 Nathan Thiele (32), W8 Chris Pavlovich (23), W11 Wayne Coleman (13). Time: No Time, Winning Margin: 8.612. Fastest Lap: 16.998 W81 Gary Higgs.
