• FOR the Keens Race Team, their 2023-24 season was an up and down sort of campaign in Limited Sprintcars, and although there were hard times, they never stopped trying and were on occasions rewarded for their persistence. Leading the charge for the Keens Race Team throughout the season was Michael Keen, who managed to record a total of six feature-race wins aboard his # 95 Boyanup Cellars / Keens Truck Driver Training supported car, which included his fourth King of Wings event victory in a row at the Perth Motorplex, an emotion-charged Krikke Boys Shootout win at the Perth Motorplex and recently taking out two of the four rounds on his way to victory in the end- of-season Pilbara Speedweek Series.

Although Michael Keen had six feature-race wins to his name, he quite possibly could have doubled that figure, which saw him in winning positions only to have a range of misfortune, such as a range of mechanical issues, deny him of adding to his season winning tally. It was also this misfortune that prevented Michael of a better chance to challenge for the season long Western Australian Limited Sprintcar Series, where he went on to finish third in the final point standings.
Later in the season, Michael was joined out on track representing the Keens Race Team by his older brother Daniel Keen, who contested a total of nine race meetings in the Limited Sprintcar ranks, but he was still able to well and truly hold his own in the # 94 Boyanup Cellars / Keens Truck Driver Training supported car.

The highlights for the season for Daniel was when he was able to finish second in two feature races behind his brother, and they occurred in the Krikke Boys Shootout and the second Pilbara Speedweek Series round at Port Hedland Speedway. Like his brother, Daniel had misfortune on occasions that robbed him of being able to achieve better results. “It has certainly been a challenging season for the whole team, but I’m very proud of them for always being there through thick and thin, as that’s what you do in speedway racing, you never give up and keep persisting,” commented Keens Race Team owner John Keen.

“Despite the misfortune, Michael showed outstanding pace all season long, and although he started the season late Daniel got going as well with some strong results, and I can’t thank all of our team sponsors, along with the boys’ nan and pop (Kaye and Paul) enough for helping the team out a few times with spare engines during the season, for all of their wonderful support.” In typical Keens Race Team fashion, they are already counting down the days before the
commencement of the 2024-25 season in October.

“It was very encouraging for our team to finish what has been a challenging season on a strong note during the four nights of the Pilbara Speedweek, and it has made us even more determined to work hard during the off season in readiness for the new season,” concluded John Keen.
